Packing List

The following ‘Camino Packing List’ files are bonus material to my book ‚Camino de Santiago – Pilgrim Tips & Packing List: What you need to know beforehand, what you need to take, and what you can leave at home.’ which will be shortly available at Amazon. It is meant to give my readers a starting point to create their very own, personalised, packing list. You can download it via the links below, either in PDF or in DOC format.

Before you share this packing list with others, please read the following carefully:

My book and this packing list are copyrighted. Please respect the hard work that went into them!

You may:

  • You may download this packing list, edit it, change it, print it and use it as the base for your own personal packing list.
  • You may send others a direct link to this website or put such a link on your own website.
  • You may share the downloaded packing list with others AS LONG as you leave the copyright notice in the footer intact.

You may not:

  • You may not pretend, in whichever form, that this is your own work.

This packing list, together with my book, are the result of many kilometers walked, in all seasons, on European pilgrimage routes, countless packed and unpacked backpacks and many hours of work to put both my experience as a pilgrim and as a hospitalera (volunteer) in an easy to read form. I hope it will help many future pilgrims to pack a smaller backpack and to walk a lighter pilgrimage. ¡Buen Camino!

    S –
Just ordered your book on Amazon (the paperback). Really excited. Thanks for all your posts on the forum. Just downloaded the packing list. Thanks for that!!

I arrive in Pamplona on 22MAY2017, stay a night in SJPP and I’m on my way. (Two weeks only this time. Call me a section hiker. Not after the certificate, so I’m going at my own pace.)

Thank you for all you do!
    Mike

Just finished PT&PL CdS. Thank you for your efforts and your passion for pilgrimages. My first is yet to come but it is reaching the top of my bucket list! The National Scenic Trails of the USA often unknowingly become pilramages also.. walking begets contemplation. Happy Trails!

First of all: Sorry for the very late reply! I was walking (Ecumenical Pilgrims Way in Germany), am walking (Via de la Plata) and haven’t checked this website as frequently as I should have done. My apologies!

You are right, a pilgrimage can be done in many and on many ways. Happy Trails/Buen Camino, SY

I’m reading your book now…almost done. Plans for the camino has not yet been finalized but will happen in the next couple of years.

At first I thought what could be so hard about packing? But your impressive experience got me curious. I’m very glad that I’m learning from you now. I know when the time comes, you will have saved me a lot of hassle & burden. Thank you.

SY: Thank you for the great information and access to the ‚packing list!‘ I appreciated your practical insights, frequent encouragement to pack light, and humorous anecdotes. Although a long way off, a close friend and I are planning a Sept – Oct 2017 pilgrimage along the Camino Francés. I have a couple questions:
1-Did you see any Chiropractor offices along the Camino?
2-Have you encountered above-the-knee amputees who have hiked the Camino? Do you know if they published their lessons learned?
    Blessings,
    david+

First of all: Sorry for the very late reply! I was walking (Ecumenical Pilgrims Way in Germany), am walking (Via de la Plata) and haven’t checked this website as frequently as I should have done. My apologies! Now to your questions:

      1) Yes, the bigger towns offer all kind of health related services (including chiropractors) and, at least on the Camino Francés, they are well advertised.

      2) Yes, many years back I met a girl from Germany in Triacastela that was a above-the-knee amputee, she had started in the Pyrenees and seemed to be doing fine. I don’t know of any published experiences, but you can always check/join the Camino Santiago Forum here https://www.caminodesantiago.me/community/ and ask. One of the many thousand members there might be able to help you.

      Buen Camino, SY

I have just bought your book from Amazon & have found it really informative. Thank you for the downloadable packing list & all the tips. I am taking the Route Ingles in September 2015 with a friend but we are starting to prepare now & your book has been very helpful.

I am glad to hear that you found my book helpful, if you haven’t done so already and have a moment of spare time would you mind to leave a review for it on Amazon? Thanks a lot and Buen Camino! SY

I will be walking the Camino with my husband later this year, he has already walked the first two stages and couldn’t make the third with his friends, so I am stepping in so he can catch up. Your book was recommended and so far the parts I have read have proved useful and interesting, the Camino bug is catching !

Glad to hear that you found my book useful! Be careful with the Camino Bug, it can be incurable 😉 If you haven’t done so already, would you do me the favour to leave a review for my book on Amazon, or wherever you bought it from? Many thanks and Buen Camino! SY

Great book. Read it on Kindle.
Worried about bed bugs. Wife is more worried for me about bed bugs which threatens my pilgrimage.
Any comment on bed bugs now in Jan 2014?

Thanks Todd! The English pilgrim forum has a whole section dedicated to the little critters: http://www.caminodesantiago.me/community/forums/bed-bugs.119/ where people can post their experiences. Hope that helps! I wouldn’t worry too much, yes bed bugs exist on the camino (and elsewhere!) and will continue to do so, but a lot of pilgrims walk the way without ever meeting one 😉 Buen Camino! SY
